Well, I have had a couple of people asking me how I met my "significant other." So, I thought that I would write about it here.
It's kind of a weird story, really. My husband, Jake and I went to High School together. We both were incoming freshman that summer day in 1980...yes, I know I'm telling my age. ;) He was from Ogden and I was from St. Joe. The two grade schools consolidated for the High School years.
Now, the weird part comes in here: We never dated in high school. Ha Ha!! Go figure!! He and I both dated our share of losers and went our own way. He got married and went into the Air Force right after high school. I went to beauty school and continued dating losers. (I am more wise now, so I can say that) :)
It wasn't until September of 1989 that we ran into each other again. By this time, I was happily single and had stopped off at the local convenient store for a soda. Behind the counter was this handsome man who I recognized immediately, even though he had grown a beard. We started talking and he came around the counter to give me a hug. We chatted for about a half hour and then he asked for my phone number. Needless to say, I gave it to him.
Come to find out, he was divorced now with 2 small children. He had moved back to Illinois about a month prior to our meeting and apparantly had asked several people about me. So, I started to go visit him at his work. He had to work the close shifts, so after I got off of work, I would head over to the convenient store and sit and visit with him while he worked. I remember one time my car was giving me fits and when I went to leave, it wouldn't start. Jake told me that he would drive me home if I waited to his shift ended. When we got ready to leave, I thought that I would try my car one more time and guess what?? It started. You could see the look of disappointment on Jake's face. But, we agreed to talk the next day and so I drove home.
I probably hadn't been home 5 minutes when I heard his truck pull up. I went outside and sure enough, there was Jake, making sure I had made it home ok.
(You can say it..Awww , how sweet!!) That's exactly what I thought too!!
And so, they say, the rest is history.
Thanks for letting me ramble!
Then you were married on my birthday and I made sure no one mentioned it so it would not take away from your "Special Day", but it is easy for me to remember your wedding anniversary.
ReplyDeleteNow, I will remember it as well. Evey's birthday is on mom and dad's anniversary.
