Yep, I get bragging rights!!! Of course, that IS a mothers' job right? :)
Jakab and Jake just returned from a trip to Denver where the USA PowerLifting Raw Nationals were being held. The definition of Raw: raw refers to lacking any gear... gear is supportive material to help you lift more, i.e bench "shirts" and dead lift suits... both are very tight equipment you can put on to give you a rebound effect out of the bottom of your lift (your weakest point).. when used well, gear can aid in putting 100's of pounds on to your lifts.. the absence of such equipment=raw
So, Jakab has been doing these power lifting meets for a number of years. All through high school and when he started at the U of I, he wanted to continue with the U of I PowerLifting Team. When he was in 8th grade, there was a senior in high school, named Zach. He was a big boy and everyone called him "Tater". He was probably 5'10 and weighed maybe 250 lbs. He also played football. Well, he had the squat record for the high school. This isn't an official record, just one that the high school coach keeps for personal records. Taters' record for squat was 530 lbs. Jakab said that by the time he was a senior, he wanted to beat Taters' record.
So, all thru high school, Jakab did his weight lifting and competing in the local powerlifting meets. He always did well in these meets, always coming home with a 1st place medal and sometime 1st and 2nd. His senior year, he finally completed his goal of beating Taters' record. Jakab squated 535 lbs!!! woot woot!!! :) The coach gave him a plaque to commemorate the occasion!!
Back to the U of I PowerLifting Team. In order to qualify for the Nationals, you had to have competed in a USA PowerLifting Meet and have a qualifying lift. Jakab competed in St. Louis in March and his lifts qualified him to go to Nationals.
While in Denver, he broke 3 National Teen Records. One for his squat of 518.1 lbs, one for his deadlift of 507.1 lbs and one for total points scored!! Yeah Jakab!!!! The Denver meet was especially fun, because they had Live Streaming...which means that they had it live on the internet. So, those of us who couldn't go...we could watch Jakab do his lifts and cheer him on while sitting in the comfort of our own computer chair!!! :) It was a great experience to be able to watch my son compete in this National Meet!!! He has really set the bar high for the next person who wants to break his record!!!
"Go Big Show....Light Weight...Yeah Buddy!"
Yep, I'm a proud Mama!!!
